Anger Management and Conflict Resolution
Due to the increase in anger and violent behavior in the media and the world around us, county schools see a need for anger management and conflict resolution skills. RSVP has created the three programs described below to assist our community in this effort.

RSVP Peacemaker School Program

Volunteers are trained to present different components of an eight-session curriculum. Other volunteers work behind the scenes to prepare all the training materials, parent take homes, and reinforcement games for each child. Second graders in county elementary schools learn to express their feelings about themselves and others, to deal with anger and conflict and to creatively solve problems and make decisions.

Talking with TJ

As fourth graders transition from childhood to youth, RSVP volunteers are there to help them develop skills necessary to understand “trouble starters” and “trouble stoppers”. One of the key components of the series, “Take A New Look”, clarifies respect for the point of view of others. Based on evaluations at the end of the program:
  • 85% of the youth were able to demonstrate 2 conflict resolution strategies.
  • 83% of the youth were able to identify appropriate responses to other people’s emotions and feelings.

Summer Peacemaker
Summer activities find volunteers working with at-risk children using a series of creative, innovative action learning events:
  • Puppet shows at all the county libraries,
  • Games Day at a local park,
  • Science Carnival with hands-on experiments and the climax of the summer,
  • Peacemaker Day at Camp, when children get to go to camp for the day to learn life skills and have a camp experience.
