Citizen's Judicial Academy:
RSVP is now
taking applications for the 10th Citizen Academy Class. The class will
meet each Wednesday from 8am to 12 noon
March 7 - May 2. Sponsored by
the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office. Over 40 law
enforcement speakers make this year’s academy a truly educational
event.

nature of the law enforcement agencies, applicants must have a

The Delta Queen and her
identical twin the Delta King - called the million dollar boats -
were fabricated from 1924 to 1927 on the River Clyde Scotland and
assembled that same year at Banner Island Shipyard in Stockton. The
paddlewheel shaft and the cranks were forged at Krupp Stahlwerke AG,
Germany. The boats were completed on May 20, 1927.

Lecture Forum Series: A Rivertown's Fight for Life -
January 18,
Dr. Pete Sparks, a local authority
on the War Between the States and its impact on Marshall County,
will discuss his new book,
"A River Town's Fight for Life--A History of the Civil War in
Marshall County." Dr. Sparks will recount the Forrest/Streight
raid. Following a major conflict in middle Tennessee Union Col.
Abel Streight
decided to make a daring raid that would lead his men across North
Alabama and into Georgia with the intention of cutting the Western
Atlantic Railroad. On his way from Memphis to Georgia,
Streight met the
famous Confederate General Nathan B. Forrest, who engaged the Union
leader in a number of battles.
Dr. Sparks will explain the January 15, 1865 bombardment of
Guntersville and the river.
Dr. Sparks will have his new book available to purchase and
autograph after the lecture.

- Back by popular demand—learn the basics of watercolor
painting from color mixing to using and controlling your watercolor

Intermediate Dulcimer: Pat Jex will teach a 4-week
class, Tuesdays at 9am starting
March 6.
This class is for those who have finished the Beginner class
and want more instruction before joining the Thursday morning
practice group. Each student will need a dulcimer, music stand, and
tuner. Upon request, these can be borrowed from RSVP during the
4-week class. Cost $20.

Have you been into RSVP to see our new addition? RSVP has created a
Book Nook in the back hallway featuring used books that have been
donated on a “Read—Enjoy—Return” policy. Come in and find a book to

return the book when you have finished it and take another one.

in Huntsville, then on to Merrimack Hall (originally built in 1898
and expanded in 1920 by the Merrimack Manufacturing Company, a large
textile manufacturer who had two large textile mills and a thriving
mill village in Huntsville) to see the 2pm matinee.
The TODAY Show says, “not your grandmother’s Tupperware
party”. This show contains adult themes and is recommended for
mature audiences. Cost $45.50, includes matinee and

botany of chocolate display. After the tasting, 3pm tour the early
spring gardens. Cost $30, includes garden admission,
one-hour chocolate tasting

Mountain Dulcimer Practice Group: Welcomes people of
all skill levels to practice each Thursday morning at 9am for
beginners, 10am slow jam and 11am intermediate jam.

Current
Affairs Cafe: An hour of coffee, good conversation on
issues of the day and a joke or two. Every Thursday morning
from 9-10am, RSVP will host a weekly discussion of current affairs
in our community, state and country.
Discussion will be centered on articles in newspapers,
magazines or on the Internet. All subjects have to be published
within the week of the meeting. Clip the article and make copies
for everyone before the meeting. This can be done at RSVP.
Each member will take a turn bringing in a current topic to
discuss and get opinions on. There can also be a short round-table
discussion on any current topics about which members feel strongly.
At the end of each meeting, a member will offer the joke of the day,
and everyone can leave with a smile. Angela Otts is the
facilitator.
Coffee will be served. Members might want to bring a biscuit
for themselves or volunteer to bring a treat for the group. Members
may bring a mug with their name on it to leave at RSVP.

Norma
Nicholas, an RSVP volunteer, will be offering a
Duplicate Bridge game each
Thursday at 12:30pm. Join a very relaxed group just
learning to play duplicate bridge. The atmosphere is
wonderful. Each week instruction on various
aspects of bridge will be offered 45 minutes before the 12:30pm
game. Newcomers, retirees, and anyone who
wants to keep mentally active and make new friends is welcome.
Classes and games are offered at no charge.
